'Starting the Hertsmere Health Walks program was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I had been dealing with unbelievable stress and I had been through a period of both inactivity and health problems. I joined the health walks as a walker and decided to become a volunteer Health Walk Leader, having progressed through all the grades of walks as my fitness and confidence improved. One of the nice things apart from chatting to different people on the walks is the social get together for refreshments after the walk.
I have always believed that we should not just take for granted what is offered free and therefore felt the time had come to see if I could help and put something back and help others. As a result I trained as a walk leader. I have been recruiting new walkers and participating as a Leader ever since'.
